Hey guys! I get what you're saying about wanting Edna to be played by a gay actor - but actually, John Travolta was not the first straight actor to play this part. Harvey's first replacement in the Broadway company was Michael McKean...also on Broadway and the national tour was John Pinette.
In defense of what you said, though, I definitely would have wanted to have seen Harvey cast in the role for the big screen - to me, that's a no brainer.
...and while I am on a rant - although James Marsden is hotter than Zach Efron, I think that at 32 years old he's too old to be playing a 16-year old Link Larkin.
Not that you're wrong - I just thought I would add my two cents...but what do I know? I just ride whales...
...either way I am going to withhold judgement until I see it on the 20th.
Have fun at Miami's Metro Zoo - I grew up in Miami and have fond memories of visiting the park as a child.
About Edna- I think that the reason for the movie having John as Edna is for comedy. People know John and may/or may not expect him to play a role like that. I think that having Harvey in the movie would "scare" people, which sucks. I really think that the producers did it so that more people would see the movie. I'm very worried about John's version of Edna. Edna is not a "comedy" role (I dont think). Harvey made the character very lovable and relatable.
& speaking of drag; i had a show last night and thought of jason when i put on this dress:
